Thrift: A Timeless Virtue
Thrift is a traditional virtue deeply rooted in Chinese culture, instilled in me by my parents. They taught me the importance of saving and not wasting resources. In peacetime, they would give me pocket money in a "piggy and pig" container, encouraging me to save rather than spend. I always save a portion of it for my learning supplies. On Sundays, when guests visit, my father might buy beer, but I make it a point to collect and recycle empty milk cartons, drink bottles, and old newspapers, reducing waste in my home. This habit not only reflects my respect for resources but also my commitment to a sustainable lifestyle. Despite the rising living standards, the virtue of thrift remains relevant, reminding us to cherish and utilize what we have.
